LocalGov Drupal training for Essex County Council

The challenge

Essex County Council was migrating its public-facing site from Contentful to LocalGov Drupal and needed to train 20 editors in how to use the new CMS before the launch date.

Essex had a bespoke configuration of LocalGov Drupal and therefore needed bespoke training.

They also had 2 groups of editors, with different training needs: a team of content designers and a team of communications and marketing advisors. Each team would have access to different levels of functionality within the CMS.

They felt that some of the deeper functionality of LocalGov Drupal was not intuitive, and so wanted training to teach them the best ways to use the CMS for their needs.

The challenge was to design bespoke training that was relevant to both teams and their work, without overwhelming them with information they wouldn’t need.

What they say about working with Scroll

“Scroll worked closely with us to make sure they understood all of our training needs, and the training was well-paced, interactive and accompanied by useful reference materials. It has made a big difference to how confident people feel using our new CMS.”

Ella Stimson, Lead content designer, Essex County Council

The solution

Scroll provided a Drupal trainer who had experience of training teams undergoing a migration. The Drupal trainer:

  • designed two bespoke training courses

  • delivered the training to both groups separately, over the course of three days

  • created comprehensive, supplementary training materials that could be used as reference materials in their daily work

How we worked

  • We studied Essex County Council’s configuration of LocalGov Drupal.

  • We worked closely to the training brief, to design a course that covered all the elements of functionality each group needed to learn.

  • We then created supplementary reference materials that covered everything in the course.

Results

  • 7 content designers and 13 communications and marketing advisors were trained in how to use LocalGov Drupal

  • Participants felt that the course content was relevant to their needs and how they use the CMS in their daily work
